Classic, Interlock and X — the three mounting systems

The container is half of your blender. The motor supplies the speed, the container shapes it — through blade length, base geometry and minimum quantity. A narrow 1.4 L blends pesto, hummus and a single smoothie to perfection; a wide 2.0 L Low-Profile (2 litres) creates the vortex that makes green smoothies silky smooth, without noticeable fibre pieces.

What matters is the mounting system, not the name on the box. Classic fits the Pro 750, all Explorian models E310, E320, E510 and E520, and Vitamix Legacy machines from the C and G series. Interlock with SELF-DETECT fits the Ascent models A2500i and A3500i. X belongs to the Ascent X series and additionally fits Classic motors — the 1.4 L X container in brushed stainless steel therefore also runs on an E510. The reverse doesn't apply: a Classic container will physically sit on an X2 or X5, but the X base detects its container electronically — without this signal, the machine won't start.

Alongside the open containers in 1.4 and 2.0 litres, there are two special forms, for both Interlock and X. The dry grains container has a different blade geometry and grinds dry ingredients — grains, coffee beans, spices — instead of flinging them up the wall. The Aer Disc container works with a disc instead of blending blades: it foams, emulsifies and stirs instead of chopping — for cold foam, vinaigrettes and cocktails.

There's also the Personal Cup Adapter: it sits on the Classic-Mount, and you blend directly in the 600 ml To-Go Cup. If you've taken over or inherited an older Vitamix, you'll find the right replacement container here — what matters is always the mounting system, not the age of the machine. Separately purchased containers carry a three-year manufacturer's warranty for household use; your statutory rights remain unaffected (warranty terms).

1.4 or 2.0 litres — the difference, illustrated

Both sizes can do the same things. They only do it well at different quantities:
