This golden version combines fresh ginger with fresh turmeric, fruity orange juice, and a squeeze of lemon. A pinch of black pepper rounds out the savory aroma. In a high-performance blender, ginger and turmeric are broken down finely, skin and all – no juicer and no pulp waste. The result is an intensely savory shot with a bright color.

Instructions

  1. 1

Wash the ginger and fresh turmeric thoroughly and trim off the dry ends thinly. Organic roots can be used with the skin on. Cut into rough pieces. Tip: Wear disposable gloves with fresh turmeric, as it stains heavily.

  2. 2

Halve and juice the oranges and lemon until you have about 150 ml orange juice and 50 ml lemon juice. Remove the seeds.

  3. 3

Add the ginger, turmeric, orange juice, lemon juice, maple syrup, and peppercorns to the Vitamix container. Secure the lid and blend on the highest setting for about 60 seconds, until everything is broken down finely. Insert the tamper through the lid opening to guide the ginger and turmeric pieces reliably toward the blades.

  4. 4

Pour the shot through a coarse sieve if you like, or leave it with the pulp. Fill into a clean glass bottle, refrigerate, and enjoy within 5 to 7 days.

Chef's Note

Fresh turmeric stains heavily – it is best to wear disposable gloves and rinse the cutting board quickly. The container may turn slightly yellow for a short time; the residue disappears on its own after a few more uses. Black pepper is a classic match for turmeric in terms of flavor. As with the classic shot, the heat can be diluted with water at a 1:3 ratio. You'll find the basics and variations in the ginger shot guide.

Fresh turmeric and ginger are hard, fibrous roots – a high-performance blender breaks both down completely, skin and all, without the need for a juicer. A juicer discards the fibers and contents of both ingredients as pulp; in the Vitamix, the entire amount you bought is used. Ground peppercorns are finely milled at the same time – no second appliance, one clean container.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is black pepper added to the turmeric shot?
Black pepper is a classic pairing with turmeric and rounds out the savory aroma in terms of flavor. Even a small pinch is enough – in a high-performance blender, the peppercorns are finely milled.
Does turmeric stain my container?
Fresh turmeric can turn the container slightly yellow for a short time. The residue is not permanent – after a few more uses, it disappears on its own. Rinse the container right after use.
Can I use ground turmeric instead of fresh?
Yes. Replace the 30 g fresh turmeric with about 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric. Fresh turmeric does give a more intense aroma and a brighter color, though.
How long does the ginger-turmeric shot keep?
In a clean, sealed glass bottle, the shot keeps in the refrigerator for about 5 to 7 days. Alternatively, freeze it in portions in ice cube trays.
Do I need a juicer for ginger-turmeric shots?
No. A high-performance blender breaks down ginger and turmeric completely, skin and all – no juicer and no pulp waste. You can sieve out the fibers at the end or leave them in for extra flavor.
