Oat-blueberry smoothie

Oat-blueberry smoothie

Creamy, high-protein, keeps you full for hours.

5 minEasySmoothieVegetarian

A creamy breakfast smoothie with oat milk, Greek yogurt, rolled oats, and frozen blueberries. The combination of protein and fiber makes it a balanced meal that keeps you full until lunch.

Instructions

  1. 1

Add all ingredients to the Vitamix container in the order listed and secure the lid.

  2. 2

Start the Smoothie program, or turn the blender on at the lowest speed and ramp quickly to the highest. Blend for 40 to 50 seconds and use the tamper to push ingredients toward the blades.

Chef's Note

You can adjust the sweetness with honey or maple syrup and add cinnamon to taste. Half a teaspoon of vanilla extract or a vanilla-flavored milk or yogurt works well here too. Optionally garnish the smoothie with a pinch of cinnamon and a few fresh blueberries.

Dry rolled oats and hemp seeds can be challenging for less powerful blenders — the Vitamix processes them together with the frozen fruit in under a minute to a uniformly creamy consistency, leaving no oat flakes behind. The speed ramp (low→high) combined with the tamper also prevents the frozen banana from stalling the blender.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to soak the oats first?
No. The Vitamix fully breaks down dry rolled oats right in the container — no soaking needed. The result is an evenly smooth texture with no flecks of oats left in the glass.
Can I use fresh blueberries instead of frozen?
Yes, but the smoothie will be less cold and a bit thinner. Fresh blueberries work well if you add some ice to keep the texture.
Can I make the smoothie vegan?
Yes. Replace the Greek yogurt with a plant-based yogurt (for example coconut or soy yogurt) and use maple syrup instead of honey. The smoothie stays creamy and rich in character.
Why do I need the tamper while blending?
Frozen banana and blueberries form a compact mass over the blades at the start. With the tamper you press them down continuously while blending — this gets the vortex started evenly and keeps the blender running smoothly.
Which Vitamix is right for this smoothie?
Every Vitamix fully breaks down rolled oats and frozen fruit. For 2 servings (1.4 L container), the Explorian E310 or E510 works well. For 4 servings, use the 2.0 L container with the E320 or an Ascent model — the Ascent Smoothies program handles the speed ramp automatically.
