Vitamix Ascent X Series

Ascent X: X2 and X5 — the Ascent system without a dead end

The Ascent X series is the only Ascent generation whose containers also fit a Classic motor base. The 1.4-litre, the 2.0-litre low-profile, the dry grains container and the Aer Disc container fit on X2 and X5 — and equally on all Explorian models E310 to E520 and on the Pro 750. If you buy an Ascent X today and put a Classic machine next to it in five years, you take your containers with you. That is not possible with the Interlock containers of the Ascent Interlock series.

The fit only works in one direction. An X container runs on a Classic motor base — a Classic container does not run on an X. It does sit on top, but the X base detects its container electronically; a Classic container does not send this signal, and the machine will not start. If you switch from an Explorian to an Ascent X, you will therefore not take your old containers with you.

Two models, one difference: the X2 comes with three programs — smoothie, frozen dessert, soup. The X5 has ten, plus a display readout that tells you when the tamper is needed. You operate both via a dial, both come with the 1.4-litre container, tamper and Tamper Manager on the machine, and both have a self-cleaning program: warm water, a few drops of washing-up liquid, done. As with every Ascent, the base uses SELF-DETECT to recognise which container is fitted and sets the program run time accordingly.

X5 or A3500i? This is the comparison that comes up most often — both have container detection and clean themselves. They differ in three places. Programs: ten on the X5, five on the A3500i. Container system: the X takes X containers and passes them on to Classic motor bases; the A3500i takes Interlock containers, which do not fit any other system. Help while blending: the X5 tells you in the display when the tamper is needed; on the A3500i, you decide that yourself. The controls differ too: dial on the X5, touchscreen on the A3500i. Either way, the real decision comes down to the container you will still want to be using in five years.

X2 and X5 come with a ten-year manufacturer's warranty for household use, and containers and accessories carry a three-year warranty; your statutory rights remain unaffected (warranty terms).

If you are still torn between the series, start with the three-step decision path; the container question is covered there under which containers can be swapped.

X2, X5 — and the container that also fits Classic

Two machines, one container system — and the proof that it does not stop at the series:

X2 — three programs, dial with scale, Tamper Manager on the machine instead of in the drawer.

X5 — ten programs and the display readout that signals when the tamper is needed.

The X container on a Classic motor base — the same 1.4-litre container, here in brushed stainless steel, on an Explorian E510. Interlock containers simply cannot do that.
