The best smoothie container in the Vitamix range, paired with three preset programs.

The 2.0 L Low-Profile Explorian container has a wide base with particularly long blades. At the same motor speed, longer blades reach a higher tip speed — and that's exactly what creates the vortex when you blend leafy greens, the one that makes green smoothies fiber-free and creamy. Anyone blending for several people every day will taste the difference compared to the narrower 1.4 L container immediately.

Three preset programs for Smoothies, Hot Soups, and Frozen Desserts run on their own; everything else you adjust manually with the variable speed dial. Minimum quantity from 500 ml for liquid blends, from about 800 ml for ice cream and nice cream. 7-year manufacturer warranty for household use.

Controls

Controls

Three programs, ten speeds, one hand — the central dial on the E520 is both at once: program selector to the left, speed control to the right. Three preset programs (Smoothies, Hot Soups, Frozen Desserts) run when you let them; ten manual speeds respond when you take over yourself. You start and stop the blend with the start/stop toggle on the right, you get short bursts at the pulse toggle on the left. And on the base sits a real on/off switch — no quiet power draw when the E520 is off.

Container

  • Vitamix 2.0 Liter Low-Profile Explorian Container
The wide 2.0 L Low-Profile container is sized for 2–4 portions and works for family smoothies or batch prep. The vortex works reliably from 500 ml of liquid; for ice cream and nice cream, plan for 800 ml. The long blades and wide base create a strong funnel that pulls ingredients from the container wall back to the center of the blades and breaks down leafy greens evenly — the smoothie turns out fiber-free and creamy, even in larger portions. Classic containers operate without automatic detection; you choose the program or runtime manually.

Who is this blender for?

The E520 is for you if you blend green smoothies daily for multiple people and want three preset programs to bring routine to your kitchen. The wide 2.0 L container with long blade wings delivers the creamiest smoothie consistency in the Explorian range. Pick a program, press start — or take over manually with the variable speed dial and pulse function. 7-year manufacturer warranty on the motor.

FAQs

  • Which containers fit the Vitamix Explorian E520?
The Vitamix Explorian E520 uses the Classic mount system. The 2.0 L Low-Profile Classic container is included. Additional compatible containers: the 2.0 L Classic container (tall), the 1.4 L Classic container, and the Aer Disc container Classic. Interlock containers from the Ascent series are not compatible with the Explorian E520.
  • What sets the Vitamix Explorian E520 apart from the Ascent series?
Both blender lines have a high-performance motor and preset programs. The difference lies in the container system and warranty: the E520 uses Classic containers without SELF-DETECT or Interlock lid detection; it carries a 7-year manufacturer warranty for household use. The Ascent series uses Interlock containers with SELF-DETECT; the A2500i and A3500i carry a 10-year warranty.
  • What is the minimum blending quantity for the Vitamix Explorian E520?
In the included 2.0 L Low-Profile Classic container, the minimum quantity for the Vitamix Explorian E520 is approximately 500 ml for liquid preparations and approximately 800 ml for thick mixtures such as smoothies with frozen fruit.
  • How hot can ingredients be in the Vitamix Explorian E520?
The Classic containers are made from Tritan and are heat-resistant up to 100 °C. At higher temperatures, the material may warp. Hot soups are prepared by blending cold or lukewarm ingredients and heating them through friction — the Vitamix Explorian E520 reaches temperatures of up to 80 °C in approximately 6 minutes at the highest speed setting.
  • Can I grind grains or coffee with the Vitamix Explorian E520?
Grinding is only partially practical in the included 2.0 L Low-Profile Classic container — it is fitted with wet blades and is not optimized for dry grinding. For regular grinding of grains, coffee, or spices, a dedicated dry-grinding container or the Aer Disc container Classic is recommended.
  • How do I clean the Vitamix Explorian E520?
Rinse the container with lukewarm water immediately after blending. For fatty ingredients (avocado, nuts, oil): fill the container halfway with lukewarm water, add 1–2 drops of dish soap, run the dial at the highest setting for about 60 seconds, then rinse. The Classic containers are dishwasher-safe; Vitamix recommends hand-washing to protect the Tritan material and blades. Wipe the motor base and rubber mat on top with a damp cloth.
  • Is the container of the Vitamix Explorian E520 dishwasher-safe?
Yes, the 2.0 L Low-Profile Classic container of the Vitamix Explorian E520 is dishwasher-safe. However, Vitamix recommends hand-washing to protect the Tritan material and the blade assembly from long-term wear. The lid and lid plug are also hand-wash only.
  • What safety guidelines apply to the Vitamix Explorian E520?
The Vitamix Explorian E520 shuts off automatically when it overheats and cools down before restarting — this only occurs with very thick preparations such as dough. Use the tamper only with the lid fully seated. Before cleaning, unplug the blender and never submerge it in water.
